A group of three couples who had been staying on a luxury cruise ship in the Caribbean were found dead inside their luxury yacht, authorities said Friday.
The yacht, which belonged to the same family, was found Friday by crew members from the luxury cruise liner Carnival Triumph.
The crew members were trying to stop the boat from being boarded by a couple who had taken it for a private tour of the island, said police spokesman Pedro Garcia.
Authorities were looking for the couple who authorities say tried to board the yacht with a knife.
“It’s very, very difficult to understand what happened,” said a Carnival Triumph crew member.
“We are all shocked.”
The crew member said that while there were no signs of foul play, the yacht was in poor condition and that there was a strong possibility that the crew members may have accidentally cut the couple in the stomach or the neck.
Carnival Triumph said the ship had arrived in the Bahamas last week, but did not give details on its location or the date or time of its arrival.
The owners of the cruise liner told CNN the ship left the Bahamas in February and had been in the waters of St. Martin, a French Caribbean island that sits between France and Antigua.
The ship was last seen at 6 a.m. local time on Friday, according to Carnival Triumph’s website.
