An Oregon truck driver has shared his story of how he got his first job in a grocery store.ABC News was able to track down Greg Taylor, whose trucking company, H-E-B, has been operating since 2013.
He started out at the front desk at a nearby gas station, then later went to the front of a grocery truck.
Taylor says the job was great and he loved every minute.
He got to see customers every day, even when the heat was off.
But his most memorable day came in June when he was driving his first route to a customer.
“The weather was great, the traffic was great,” Taylor said.
“I got on the highway and the road was packed.
I had to make a left turn and make the turn right at a red light.
I was just doing it in the heat of the moment.
It was a beautiful day.”
The next day, Taylor says he made a right turn, hit a curb and a bus, then stopped and got out of his truck.
He says he was shocked to see a group of kids in the back of the bus, and he couldn’t believe what he saw.
“I had no idea they were kids, no idea what I was going to do.
I didn’t know what to do,” Taylor told ABC News.
“All I knew was that I was driving for the store.
So I just started crying, and then I started getting out of my truck and just trying to make the right decision.”
Taylor says he never thought about the possibility that he could end up in a fire.
“What do I know?
I just drove to the gas station,” he said.
Taylor says the kids just laughed and said, “Hey, don’t worry about it.”
